Permalink URLs should be:
http://www.davidslog.com/do...
and if another post is made on the same url with the same title (permalink), it should be:
http://www.davidslog.com/do...

+1. Disqus is *great*, but I would much prefer to use a built-in (and possibly optional) commenting solution. I don't care about "don't fight the format"; people want to comment. Twitter staff, please read this.

You should enable commenting, i dont want to use this disqus thing. People should be able to comment on other peoples tumblrs using their own tumblr accounts

I also hope there will be a way to choose which permalink style we prefer. I'm not sure I like this new system as some of my posts now have incredibly awkward URLs.

Will there be a way to set preferences for permalinks? I like that keword urls are there for people who want it even though I don't think Tumblr had a search engine indexability problem before (the person who sparked this yesterday, her tumblr powered blog had no incoming links which was the real cause for her lack of Google traffic) but for the people like me who use tumblr as a personal blog/scrapbook who aren't concerned or don't want their with post being on frontpage of Goog this is kind of annoying.

Of course, but the change makes an entry into two separate submissions to StumbleUpon - which essentially kills ALL the success my site has had in social media to date. New reader votes on the new URL, not the one that delivered them. That leaves it stillborn.

For example:
http://www.stumbleupon.com/...
http://www.stumbleupon.com/...

This might seem like nothing, but it is a big deal and it is really frustrating to see from a service I have been totally impressed with until now.

How could you make such a major change with no announcement whatsoever or even considering something as fundamental as the major sources of traffic (digg, stumbleupon, etc)?

It's disappointing.

The folks at Disqus are currently porting comments to the new URL scheme. Sorry for the interruption. This was entirely our oversight. It should be wrapped up tonight.

As for the bookmarking services, they'll scan our permanent redirect headers when they sweep for dead links. If it's important to maintain legacy permalinks for a particular widget (like Digg), you can explicitly use the old URL structure in your theme like:

I, too, like the feature, but Disqus comments are hosed on some of my posts -- not showing up at all, and double posts showing up at my Disqus "community page"
