I tell you I'm so, so glad there's that solution to keep a GAGAWONDERFUL search mode for Tumblr, and you NUKE IT? Tumblr, what are you doing?

The new Search > Tumblr is awful in the current square block layout. Truly awful.
Good sir Alber, who responded to my first and second comment below told me that if you aren't following anyone, Search > Dashboard is essentially Global Search without the ridiculously flawed current layout. It's Global Search the way it's should be and the way searching one's Dashboard and My Posts looks.

Then why Search > Dashboard (if you aren't following anyone) totally gone now. I can't search everyone's tumblr. Why was this taken down?
Come on guys, make Global Search you're absolute priority. It makes searching the site by keyword extremely fun and a great way to find other tumblrs. The incomplete results of the current square layout (Its bullshit, i'm sorry) is horrible.
Anyway, I'm just pissed cause you guys seem to have everything you need to get it going but have only taken it away.. twice already.

Sincerely,
A baffled Tumblr user.

Re: Introducing: Tumblr v5 | Tumblr Staff

I wonder when are you implementing the built-in comment system in tumblr. I'm sick of installing third party commenting system that's just hard to customize....

Re: Introducing: Tumblr v5 | Tumblr Staff

thanks mate. impressive as always...

Re: Introducing: Tumblr v5 | Tumblr Staff

I'm not sure that I like the notes at the bottom layout. It took me a few seconds to even see the comments. Instead, all I saw is an seemingly infinite list of people who "liked this" or "reblogged this from." The way it's set out above seems overly redundant, wouldn't you agree?

They should compress the likes and rebloggs into a little blurb at the bottom and only expand the rebloggs where someone comments on a post. I think that would be better.

Re: Introducing: Tumblr v5 | Tumblr Staff

Double ditto!

Re: Introducing: Tumblr v5 | Tumblr Staff

How do I browse random tumblrs from the map without the live post function repositioning me all the time? For some reason, I prefer to follow tumblelogs directly, going there periodically, so I don't use 'Follow'. Since v4 I have been using 'Filter > All posts' to do global searches. It's amazing, it's great, it's wonderful, it's Tumblr at its heist.

I take from your words that it didn't do that if you were following people, just the same as now, with v5.

Now my last comments might make a bit more sense.

Re: Introducing: Tumblr v5 | Tumblr Staff

Awesome. 'Search > Dashboard' and 'Search > My Post' are fine, as they should be. That's the best layout for search results.

But since I experienced 'Search > Tumblr' back in November when it was accidentally leaked (I feel like the only person that realized it was out for that day or two), and since it had the same layout that Dashboard and My Posts search results have now, it's disappointing to see this square result page that mirrors the 'Radar' page. And the fact that it only picks up "some" is really degrading. The Global Search, in the format they had it before and the format the other searches have now, is the best one. I don't know what caused the difference.

I just hope someone decides to change it. If I worked at Tumblr that'd be my number one priority at this point.

We'll see.

Re: Introducing: Tumblr v5 | Tumblr Staff

Thanks. One thing, when I tag a post via drop-down suggestion method it puts up a tag for the selection I choose per usual but also makes a tag for the 2 or 3 letters I typed in. Easy to [X] out but I figured it was a glitch.

Re: Introducing: Tumblr v5 | Tumblr Staff

WHOP! I thought I had tried that, but old-style tumblr search seems to be at Search > My Dashboard.

Search > Tumblr apparently choses SOME of the (best, last) results. A bit unintuitive, but I am happy with that.

Still no filters, sadly.

Re: Introducing: Tumblr v5 | Tumblr Staff

Hmm. Press return.

But neither of these methods are apparent from looking at the user interface.

If a function that lots of people want is not obviously accessible from the user interface, then the user interface is not designed well.

Re: Introducing: Tumblr v5 | Tumblr Staff

click on your tumblrs name in the right hand column and you can see your own posts as well as all of your notifications
